HTML Tutorial with Chris Jackson

Feb 28th - 1.30pm

This tutorial was brilliant. Lasted three hours and there is going to be another part as everything was covered in depth and there is a lot more to do. I feel really confident now with going into dreamweaver and contructing my site.

The best thing that resulted from todays tutorial is that I remembered how important it is to consider the features an application has before creating a set in stone design. It's just the same way I would never take a photograph into illustrator and try and better it. I would never use Photoshop for vector drawing. I need to stop being so meticulous about how good my site is going to look, which will be difficult to turn off, being a Graphic Designer it is what I spend every day trying to do. But I don't think that is what this module is about, and personally, I would rather learn something about constructing a site and something about Dreamweaver. I will use the knowledge I have acquired in Dreamweaver and design a site to the best of what I know. In the end, it might look good anyway!

VIDEO IDEA

I want to create a video that would be hosted on my home page/opening screen that represents what i'm about as a designer. It would be quite short as it is acting as an intro, plus people would be interested in a long winded recording.
My first notion is a film of me drawing on a white board, a little doodle or logo representing myself as a designer.
This could also be done quite easily using photographs and edited in iMovie, in the manner you would with a stop frame animation. Taking advantage of this, I could appear to be using my finger to draw, erase etc. Would be quite funny, lightening the mood and stopping the site from being too serious.

DREAMWEAVER TUTORIAL

GRAHAM FEB 9TH 1PM

Attended this tutorial and Graham showed me the basics of placing text on a site and creating my own banner at the top in Photoshop. This was particularly useful as I learnt how to apply transparent backgrounds so I can place on my page without having to colour match the background (which is just asking for a cock up!)

Didn't have time for rollovers, and creating buttons so I was disappointed about this. I can see him at a later date for further date, but I now have more knowledge to carry on playing with Dreamweaver

Appearance

I have come up with this design for my site. I would like a quite plain surround to the central images because I wouldn't want it to distract from my work or clash. This is what i'd like it to look like, but I also acknowledge that I am not yet accustomed to using dreamweaver, I don't know how much of the design I would be able to achieve and what restraints are in place within the program. Some programs are better than others, and I accept that may designs may have to change in order to accomodate this.
